The Philosophy of Nuances (in Romanian, "Filozofia Nuanţelor") is a philosophical manifesto written in 1969 by Petre Ţuţea, the prominent Romanian philosopher whose life and work we have endeavored to present on this website, www.filozofianuantelor.org Most site content has been translated in English, with additional comments on Romanian culture and history. Some fragments from Ţuţea's writings will follow soon. Few texts by Ţuţea have ever been translated, one example featured on this site would be An encounter with Brâncuşi; also available, a transcript of EXCELSIOR!, Ţuţea's live "testament" from an interview taken on his deathbed (the videoclip is also available in the Romanian Arhiva > Video section), and a letter to Cioran in which he describes his late project "Man". A few original essays on Ţuţea's philosophy will be featured in the References > Articles section and elsewhere. Site editors can be reached through the Contact page. This website also offers an RSS feed and a rich Links section, where most of the "Webpages and Articles" section links point to Romanian content. One exception: "Every Great Intelligence Swings Between Religion and Philosophy " - an excerpt from the bilingual edition of Isabela Vasiliu-Scraba 's book, "In the labyrinth of reflections. Nae Ionescu through his disciples : Petre Tutea, Emil Cioran, C-tin Noica, Mircea Eliade, Mircea Vulcanescu and Vasile Bancila" (Star Tipp, Slobozia, ©2000, 264 pages, ISBN 973-8134-05-6). Although its tone is quite polemical, and the translation is a little rough, this chapter presents Ţuţea's intellectual m i l i e u and quotes him extensively. The most valuable reference on Ţuţea's life and work is Dr. Alexandru Popescu's Petre Ţuţea Between Sacrifice and Suicide , available directly from Ashgate or from Amazon.com. It is warmly recommended as a wonderful spiritual adventure. The bibliography alone is worth the price of this balanced and rigorous book, covering all authorized and unauthorized articles and books by Ţuţea and all secondary literature. Popescu met Ţuţea in the 1980s and visited him frequently. He also interviewed many of his friends and associates, fellow prison inmates, and even Col. Craciun, the infamous director of the dreadful Aiud political prison. The book also contains many translated quotes from Ţuţea's books and manuscripts, and a thorough analysis of his main works, including The Philosophy of Nuances. Dr. Rowand Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury has written a Foreword. All reviews available on the Internet, of all books by Ţuţea or about him, can be accessed through the Links > Reviews page. |
